Calibrating Registers

Describes the process of calibrating regsiters for various register models.

Calibrating Registers

Touchscreen Setup and Calibration

The touchscreen technology itself will vary from one model to the next.  Some models use heat-sensitivity to detect a touch, called resistive.  Others use electrical capacitance, called capacitive.  Still others use electrical resistance, also called resistive.  Screens which test electrical capacitance are sensitive to the touch of fingers but not to inanimate objects.  Screens which test electrical resistance are sensitive to fingers as well as inanimate objects.  Thermal screens which test for heat are sensitive to fingers and other objects which are warm.  Thermal screens should not be placed in direct sunlight as this will diminish their effectiveness.  Furthermore, thermal screens should not require recalibration.

These touchscreens are calibrated prior to installation at the site.  But, if they require recalibration, the end-user can perform a recalibration using supplied software.  The software included for recalibration is model specific.

The NCR60, NCR62, NCR70 and all IBM models newer than the 533 use ELO Touchscreen drivers.

The POS500, POS600, POS607, NCR20 and all IBM models older than the 533, use Touchware touchscreen drivers.

NOTE:

During the calibration process, avoid using the ball of a fingertip for input.  Fingertips are too wide to provide accurate readings.  Instead, press very lightly with the tip of a fingernail (taking care to avoid scratching the surface of the screen.)  The calibration procedure for each driver follows:

Touchware (POS500, POS600, POS607, NCR20, IBM531, IBM532)

1.      End the TSPOS session

2.      Open the Touchware control panel

3.      At the top of the initial window, select the Tools tab

4.      Press the Options button

5.      Press the Advanced button

6.      Verify that Enable Linearization is checked.

7.      Press Close to close the Advanced screen.

8.      Press Close to close the Options screen.

9.      Back at the main window, press the Linearize button.

10.  When prompted to continue, press the Yes button.

11.  Touch each of the targets on the screen when prompted to do so.

12.  Press Done when finished.

ELO Touchscreen (NCR60, NCR62, NCR70, IBM563)

1.      End the TSPOS session

2.      Open the ELO Touchscreen control panel.

3.      Press the Align button to configure.

4.      Touch the targets as they appear on the display.

5.      Confirm the alignment by touching the Yes button.

Special Considerations

IBM 4840-532

  • Turn off tspos.
  • Start, programs, TouchWare, TouchWare
  • You want to do the linearization. To setup Tools Tab, option, advanced, Check mark Enable Linearization. Ht ok.
  • On the tools tab hit linearization.
  • This a 25 point and a 16 target screen. (The Customer will need to do the linearization.)
  • After 25 point hit ok to do the target. (The Customer will need to do the linearization.)
  • Have the Customer test out.
  • If it calibration consistently occurs, it may indicate the touch panel must be repaired/replaced.
